Ridgefield High School offers a variety of music programs across Band, Orchestra and Chorus. In addition to these courses, students can participate in extracurricular activities including Pep Band, Madrigals and Chamber Orchestra. Students have an opportunity to perform in multiple ensembles in school and across the region.

The high school music program provides a fun, supportive and engaged community for students. Colleges also tend to look favorably on students that participate consistently through their high school careers.

middle school

Our middle schools offer band, orchestra, choir and music elements courses. Band, orchestra, and choir are all performance ensemble courses that meet as a grade level group. There are enrichment select groups open to students for grades 6-8 where musicians can audition to be a part of, such as Symphonic Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Singers, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Band. At this point in a child’s tenure in the RPS music program, students are tracked based on their elementary experiences. There is mobility from instrumental to chorus or elements, and mobility from chorus to music elements. At this level, students build the skills necessary to enter the high school program. It’s important for students to build strong music foundations to prepare them for a lifetime of learning, appreciation and academic benefits.

Elementary School

The Ridgefield music program begins with general music in Kindergarten where students learn all different kinds of skills, including singing, movement, appreciation, history, and performing on instruments. The skills learned also help to lay the foundation for the instrumental and choral experiences they will get to experiment with in grades 4 and 5. Our community is fortunate to have students exposed to music at an early age.
